Our Organisation

As one of the top-performing police forces in the UK, here at Durham Constabulary we pride ourselves on doing things differently, and doing them well.

Earlier this year we celebrated an extraordinary hat-trick of success after once again being rated ‘outstanding’ by inspectors – the only force in the country to receive the top grade.

When people visit Durham, they often comment ‘it feels different here’ – that is the Durham Difference.

Our philosophy is about being efficient, innovative and cultivating great partnerships which help with problem-solving.

Our staff are positive, optimistic, professional and committed to delivering the best possible service to the people of County Durham and Darlington.

The force is led by Chief Constable Mike Barton and his Executive Team, based at our headquarters in Aykley Heads, Durham.

Our work is carried out through a structure of functional commands.

These are:

Safeguarding and Neighbourhoods - led by Chief Superintendent Adrian Green

Response and Crime - led by Chief Superintendent Paul Beddow

Tasking and Co-ordination - led by Gillian Routledge

Strategic Demand Management and Harm Reduction - led by Chief Superintendent Jane Spraggon

Support Services - led by Assistant Chief Officer Gary Ridley

Professional Standards and Legal Services - led by Superintendent Victoria Fuller

Special Constabulary - led by Special Chief Officer Dale Checksfield
