Advice for overseas visitors and students studying/living in County Durham or Darlington. After you arrive in the United Kingdom, you may need to register your stay with the police.

Please click here to begin the registration process.

You could be fined £5,000 and jailed for six months if you do not register in accordance with your visa requirements.

Late registration could affect any future visa applications.

Please note your Police Registration Certificate is a legal document. You will be asked about the circumstances surrounding the loss or theft of your certificate during your appointment with the Police. Only apply once all methods of finding the certificate have been exhausted.

Please ensure you have all relevant information in front of you before you commence the registration; change of details; request new certificate or transfer from another force process as you cannot save a partially completed registration form – all details must be completed in one sitting.

Appointments will be at Durham City Police Station, New Elvet, Durham, DH1 3AQ.

Please ensure that you attend 10 minutes prior to your appointment time. If you are late in attending your appointment we will be unable to deal with your registration.

Covid19 reminder:

Due to the ongoing COVID restrictions in place within County Durham and surrounding areas, all foreign students are kindly reminded that if they have an appointment to register at the police station that they must attend alone and wear a face covering when inside the building. If you have been instructed to isolate or if you do not have an appointment, please do not attend the station, please book the appointment to take place after your 14 days of isolation, you will not face Home Office action for failing to register within the 7 days if you have travelled from a country where isolation is mandatory. We also strongly advise against gathering outside of the station as to comply with social distancing guidelines.
