16 minutes to catch a suspected burglar.

Police received a report of an ongoing burglary at an address on Finchdale Terrace, Chester-Le-Street at around 2.20am last night (November 16).

Officers were quickly dispatched to the scene while the calm call handler kept the victim on the phone offering a reassuring voice until officers arrived.

At 2.28am, response officers PC Hood and PC Duffy pulled up to the scene and at 2.36am, while conducting enquires, the officers became aware of a man on a pedal cycle who matched the clothing description of the suspect provided by the victim.

Due to the match, PC Hood informed the man that she was going to conduct a stop search.During this search, officers discovered stolen items believed to be taken from the burglary on the suspect.

A 48-year-old man was subsequently arrested in connection with the incident and remains in police custody.

Enquires are currently ongoing.
