Keeping you safe on the roads.

Officers from Durham Constabulary’s Durham Roads & Armed Policing Team carried out an operation at Bowburn Services last week to take dangerous vehicles off the road.

The joint operation, between Motorcycle Section, D Relief, Stolen Vehicle Squad and DVSA, targeted unroadworthy vehicles that had been travelling on the busy A1(M).

Vehicles were checked for their roadworthiness with officers giving advice and stopping those with defects from continuing their journey – preventing potential collisions and fatalities.

Of the dozens of vehicles stopped, 20 were dealt with for serious defects as well as offences such as insecure loads and exceeding driver’s hours.

One vehicle had so many defects the driver was not allowed to continue and had to have their vehicle recovered.
