A man has appeared in court following a fatal collision in Darlington.

James Mitchell was arrested by officers from the force’s Durham Roads & Armed Policing Unit last night after being released from hospital and charged with causing death by dangerous driving.

It follows an incident in Darlington last weekend where a pedestrian was hit by a motorbike on the B6279.

Despite the best efforts of the emergency services, the man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

Mr Mitchell, of Killinghall Street, Darlington, appeared at Peterlee Magistrates’ Court today (February 17).

The 27-year-old did not enter any pleas but was remanded into custody and is next expected to appear at Teesside Crown Court on March 17.
