Neighbourhood Watch

Neighbourhood Watch continues to expand across the Spennymoor police district, with over 400 street co-ordinators and almost 5,000 people involved. Durham Constabulary and the Safe Durham Partnership are keen to see the scheme grow.

There are many benefits for those involved:

  • It is free to join.
  • The British Crime Survey demonstrates fewer crimes are committed in active Neighbourhood Watch areas.
  • Most household insurance providers offer a premium reduction for Neighbourhood Watch members.
  • It provides a close link with the local police neighbourhood policing team and support from the police community liaison officer.
  • Voice Connect is a police messaging system which allows the police to send out voice messages and emails to home phones, mobiles and computers. The messages are designed to keep Neighbourhood Watch co-ordinators informed of relevant crime issues and offer impartial crime prevention advice.
