Don't be scammed on your doorstep

Don’t be scammed on your doorstep - that’s the message from officers as they see a rise in calls.

Door to door frauds can take many forms including: pressure selling, unfair contracts, overpriced or substandard home maintenance/improvements, phone consumer surveys, and bogus charity collections.

Most recently, Durham have seen an increase in calls from victims who have been targeted by those purporting to be out on probation, often selling cleaning products and kitchen ware in an attempt to ‘find their feet’.

It is common for these fraudsters to have paperwork on them suggesting they’re recently out of prison.

Members of the public should be reminded that they are advised not to engage with these people, do not purchase items and please speak with neighbours to spread the word.

You can report fraud by calling Action Fraud on 03001232040 or if you are in immediate danger please call 999.
