150 cannabis plants have been seized during operation in South Moor

POLICE have seized approximately 150 cannabis plants during co-ordinated raids in South Moor this morning.

At 8.45am today, officers from Stanley Neighbourhood Policing Team, supported by specialist officers, executed two search warrants at properties in School Terrace and Fern Avenue.

Officers forced their way into both addresses and uncovered cannabis farms, with a total of 150 plants as well as equipment used in production of the drug.

Both properties were empty and no arrests were made, but police investigations are continuing and several lines of enquiry are being pursued.

PC Gary Smith said: “We have shut down two cannabis farms today and will continue to take action against those criminals supplying drugs in our communities.

“Cannabis farms fund organised crime and when we receive information from the community about suspicious activity we will act to disrupt the criminal gangs responsible”.

If you have any information about the supply of drugs in the area you can report it to your local neighbourhood policing team on 101 or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
