Clampdown on anti-social behaviour in Sedgefield

 28/03/2019

Officers will be taking a zero tolerance approach to any youths found drinking and causing anti-social behaviour in Sedgefield.

There has been an increase in the amount of criminal damage in the village in recent weeks and groups have also been found gathering in Hardwick Park.

Officers will deal with anti-social behaviour using powers from Operation Staysafe, which include dispersal orders, referrals to Social Services, parents issued with warnings and community protection warnings preventing individuals from being in Sedgefield centre at certain times.

Where criminal offences are disclosed arrests will be made.

Children found in possession of alcohol will be removed to a place of safety and parents will be required to collect them and speak with a sergeant or inspector.

Social services referrals will always be made where children are found in possession of alcohol.

Those who have been spoken to recently are in the majority from the Sedgefield area.

Police are urging parents, carers and guardians to take an active part in speaking to their children to deter such behaviour.
