 Crime team secures more than 40 charges in first three months


​A NEW team launched to tackle specific crimes in Darlington has seen more than 40 charges in the first three months and 43 other positive disposals.

The Priority Crime Team was launched in March to tackle certain crimes in the town, in particular burglaries and thefts from motor vehicles.

The team, which comprises of three detectives, has so far dealt with 36 people for a range of offences, including burglary, robbery, theft, fraud, vehicle interference and possession of drugs.

A total of 43 charges have been brought against those arrested, with a further 33 summons issued.

Included in the charges were ten counts of residential burglary, 12 counts of commercial burglary, five counts of shop theft, three counts of fraud, four theft from a motor vehicle and one count of robbery.

Fourteen of the 36 offenders dealt with remain in prison.

Acting Detective Sergeant Grace Holohan from the Priority Crime Team said: “We launched the Priority Crime Team back in March and have seen some really positive results.

“Our team has been working extremely hard to put the pressure on local criminals and disrupt prolific offenders who have been causing misery to the people of Darlington.
