 Man in court charged with several serious offences


​A man has appeared in court charged with several serious offences which are said to have taken place across County Durham.

Michael Collier appeared at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court today (November 5) to face three counts of robbery, two counts of burglary, one of aggravated burglary, two thefts and one count of possession of a knife in a public place.

The 40-year-old, of Eighth Avenue, Chester-le-Street, did not enter any pleas and was remanded in custody to appear at Durham Crown Court on December 5.

He was arrested by officers on Sunday (November 3) in the Chester-le-Street area and later charged with the following offences:


1. Robbery at Spar, in Wolsingham, on October 28
2. Robbery at Tesco Express, in Sacriston, on November 2
3. Robbery at Spar, in Carville, on November 2
4. Aggravated burglary at Admiral Casino, in Chester-le-Street, on October 29
5. Theft from a person at Aldi, in Newton Aycliffe, on October 31
6. Burglary with intent to steal at a property on Arcadia Avenue, in Chester-le-Street, on October 24
7. Burglary at a property in Windsor Court, in Croxdale, on October 28
8. Theft from Brighthouse, in Chester-le-Street, on September 24
9. Possession of a knife in a public place on November 3
