Pedestrian in hospital after being hit by a car


​A MAN is in hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a car.

The 38-year-old man was crossing the A692 Leadgate Road, near Consett, when he when he was struck by a VW Polo at around 7.10pm last night (February 12).

He was taken to Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary where he remains in a stable condition.

Nobody in the Polo was injured.

The 21-year-old driver of the car and his front seat passenger, a 20-year-old man, were arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

The driver has since been released under investigation. His passenger will face no further action.

Officers are appealing for witnesses to the collision, which happened between the Villa Real roundabout and Delves Lane roundabout.
