Police issue images of two women wanted in connection with a theft

POLICE have issued images of two women they want to speak to following a theft from an elderly lady.

The victim, who was in her 80s, was shopping on Sedgefield High Street at around noon on Tuesday, August 20 when she was approached by two women, thought to be in their 30s.

While one suspect distracted the victim by trying to persuade her to sign up to support a charity for the blind, her accomplice took a purse from the victim’s bag.

The victim’s debit card was later used in the Bowburn area and there was a second failed attempt to use it in Fishburn.

Attempts to trace the pair have proven unsuccessful and now images of two women have been released by officers investigating the case.

PC Laura Ward, of Durham Constabulary, said: “To steal from an elderly lady is a despicable crime and we would very much like to speak to the two women in the CCTV footage in connection with the case”.

If anyone recognises the two women, or has any further information about the incident, they are asked to call PC Laura Ward at Newton Aycliffe police station on 101, quoting incident 0166 of August 20.
