Thank you for staying at home

We would like to say a big thank you to you all for your support in helping to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

This weekend, while on patrol across the streets of County Durham and Darlington, our officers were pleased to see that an overwhelming majority of you had listened to the warnings and had stayed at home.

These are unprecedented times and we appreciate that many of you are having to make huge sacrifices in order to the right thing – for that, we thank you.

We know it is extremely difficult not being able to see friends, or members of your family. But with your help we can ensure that our NHS colleagues across County Durham and Darlington can continue their lifesaving work.

There have been some instances over the last week in which officers have had to reiterate the stay at home message, but thankfully these instances are few and far between. We have also not had to issue any fines to anyone flouting the rules.

For anyone who needs a reminder, you can leave the house for the following reasons:

• Shopping for basic necessities, for example food and medicine, as infrequently as possible.

• One form of exercise a day, for example a run, walk or cycle – alone or with members of your household. While out, you must stay at least two meters away from anyone who isn’t in your household.

• Any medical need, for example to provide care or to help a vulnerable person.

• Travelling for work purposes, but only where you cannot work from home.
Please do not contact us to ask about the restrictions or potential punishments - you can find more information about the restrictions on the Government’s website here
