 Two cats have been shot dead in Bishop Auckland


The family pets, belonging to the same owner were discovered close to Woodhouse Estate allotment site along Murphy Crescent yesterday (January 3) following a report from a member of the public.

The animals are believed to have been shot with a BB gun.

Officers are now appealing for anyone who may have been in the area between Wednesday (January 2) and Thursday (January 3) to come forward.

PC Ken Barclay, from Bishop Auckland Neighbourhood team said: “This is clearly a very distressing incident for the owners of the cats.

“We would like to remind people that the killing of animals is an offence and is taken seriously by us, we will take action against any offenders identified for these offences.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Bishop Auckland Neighbourhood Team on 101 quoting reference number 112 of January 3.
