 Police appeal after a man was found unconscious in Stanhope


Police are appealing for information after a man was found unconscious in Stanhope.

The 56-year-old was located with head injuries on Cross Street at around 8am on Monday (April 22).

The man was seen leaving the Pack Horse Inn at around 2.30am on Monday morning (April 22) in the direction of Stanhope Town Hall where he was sighted again at around 4.25am.

He is described as white, around 5ft 10, of medium build with grey hair, wearing blue jeans, a padded burgundy jacket and a white polo top.

He was air lifted to the Royal Victoria Infirmary Hospital in Newcastle where remains in a critical but stable condition.

Detective Constable Graeme Hopkirk, from Bishop Auckland CID said: “We are working to establish how this man sustained his injuries.

"We would like to speak to anyone who may have seen the man in between the hours of 2.30am and 8am”.
